Frequently Asked Questions
What can a new patient expect?
You will be evaluated by one of our MDs. The first visit will
involve a determination of your diagnosis, whether you would
benefit from treatment, and if so what kind of treatment. Assuming such
treatment is offered by Atlantic Health Services, that treatment would then commence or be arranged.
What is involved in the initial interview?
The initial evaluation usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour. It entails a review of the development of symptoms, any past treatment of symptoms, substance use, other medical issues, the family medical history as well as other areas of potential relevance.
How does treatment work after the initial interview?
Follow-up appointments to monitor treatment with medicines tend to be brief. If the patient is receiving psychotherapy, follow-up visits generally last about 45 minutes. The frequency of visits depends on the severity of the illness and current symptoms.
What insurance do you accept?
At Atlantic Health Services, we accept almost all insurance except Medicare and Medicaid. If the patient does not have insurance or has Medicare or Medicaid, a self-payment agreement must be arranged prior to the first appointment.
What kind of treatment is offered at Atlantic Health Services?
Douglas Berv MD and Jeffry Klugman MD specialize in the treatment of psychiatric illness with medications.
Joan Dreyfus APRN MSN specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy for obsessive compulsive disorder and other axieties, and will sometimes prescribe medication as part of the treatment.
Diane Rosen LCSW specializes in psychotherapy with individual adults and adolescents as well as couples and families.
Will my visit be private?
Adult patients have a right to confidentiality limited only by an immediate risk to themselves or others.
Patients are welcome to bring family members or significant others if they wish.
